Counselling
A counsellor plays a crucial role in supporting children, youth and adults with mental health challenges, autism, ADHD, and behavioral issues. They assess a child's unique needs and provide evidence-based interventions to help them build emotional resilience, manage anxiety, and develop coping strategies. For children with autism, counsellors often work on improving social skills, communication, and emotional regulation, while for those with ADHD, they can offer tools for focus, self-control, and managing impulsivity. Play therapy is often utilized with younger children. Behavioral therapy is another key area, helping children and families address challenging behaviors and establish positive routines. By collaborating with caregivers, teachers, and other professionals, psychologists create tailored strategies that foster the child’s overall development and well-being. Their guidance empowers children to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. Counsellors can also work holistically, integrating the bigger family unit, including caregivers, siblings and others involved in the child's life.
Behavioural Therapy
Behavioral therapy is an effective approach for helping children navigate challenges related to mental health, autism, ADHD, and behavioral issues. It focuses on understanding and modifying specific behaviors through structured techniques and positive reinforcement. For children with autism, behavioral therapy often addresses social skills, communication, and adaptive behaviors, while for those with ADHD, it helps with impulse control, organization, and maintaining focus. This therapy is also effective in managing challenging behaviors, teaching children how to replace negative patterns with positive ones, and empowering parents with strategies to reinforce progress at home. By providing clear goals and practical tools, behavioral therapy helps children develop skills that improve their daily lives and relationships, creating a strong foundation for long-term success.
Pediatric & Adult Massage Therapy
Our Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) has over two decades of experience working with both, children and adults. Her special interest is in pediatrics but she also has a great deal in providing more traditional forms of massage, as well as has special certification in offering pre-natal massage and post-natal massage, as well as TMJ massage. We encourage massage for children that have spasticity, tight muscles, low body awareness, anxiety, sensitivity to touch, muscle imbalances, low range of motion, TMJ issues, headaches, digestive issues, irregular bowel movements (constipation), and also simply for pure relaxation.
Our Massage Therapist is also happy to see caregivers/parents for massage while their child is in for their own therapy. With over 20 years of experience, she knows many different techniques and will be able to adapt the massage to best suit your needs.
If you're not sure if massage is appropriate for your child, please call us at 403-209-1669, email info@canadiancentrefordevelopment.org or visit our website at www.canadiancentrefordevelopment.org to learn more.
